Emma Hedrick is a 7-time DownBeat award-winning, vocalist, composer, and bandleader. She is currently based in The Hague, Netherlands. Emma received the prestigious Holland Award to attend the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. There she is following a Master of Music degree in Vocal Jazz Performance with a focus on Composition. She is studying with Anka Koziel (Voice) and Wolfert Brederode (Composition). In 2023, Emma was a DownBeat Student Music Award winner in the Graduate Vocal Jazz category. The Indianapolis native received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Jazz Performance, Magna Cum Laude, and Presser Scholar, from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami under the tutelage of Dr. Kate Reid (Voice) and Dr. Stephen Guerra Jr. (Composition). At the University of Miami, she received four Downbeat Student Music Awards. In 2021, Emma was selected as a mentee in Jazz Composition for the Women In Jazz Organization, where she studied with Rosanna Eckert. In 2019, Emma was a finalist in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition where she placed 3rd. Emma had the honor of performing in the Telluride All-Stars Ensemble at the Telluride Jazz Festival in Colorado in 2018 and she was the selected vocalist for the Aspen Summer JAS Academy directed by Christian McBride in 2020. At just 23 years old, Emma has also headlined at various venues including the St. Petersburg Jazz Festival (with the Helios Jazz Orchestra), Indy Jazzfest (NextCon), and The Jazz Kitchen. She was recently a vocalist for the Jong Metropole Summer 2023 tour in the Netherlands and Germany performing at venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Konzerthaus Berlin in an Orchestra conducted by Chris Walden. In high school, Emma was a YoungArts winner and a two-time winner in the DownBeat Student Music Awards. Emma aspires to take her audiences through the story of each song she sings and strives to use the voice in traditional and nontraditional ways.

The Emma Hedrick Quartet includes an international lineup of Emma Hedrick on voice, Jan Domènech Vayreda on Piano, Marcos Sanchez Martinez on Bass, and Egidio Gentile on Drums who are all current students or graduates of the Royal Conservatoire and Codarts. Emma Hedrick has 7 Downbeat Student Music Awards and placed 3rd in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition. Emma has also performed across the U.S. in festivals like Indy Jazz Fest, Elkhart Jazz Festival, St. Petersburg Jazz Festival and Telluride Jazz Festival. This summer she was a vocalist for the Jong Metropole Summer 2023 European tour. The quintet recently performed at Koorenhuis opening for Nefertitti and is performing next at the Voorschoten Cultural Center as a part of their monthly jazz concert series.
The repertoire of the band includes Emma’s original music with a few rearrangements of jazz standards mixed in. Emma Hedrick's music is rooted in the harmony and style of jazz tradition blended with attentiveness to lyric and melody from the singer-songwriter genre. The rearranged standards are old favorites with a fresh, new take in the delivery. Emma aspires to take her audiences through the story of each song she sings. Adding to this, each individual member of the band brings their own unique perspective to the music resulting in a live dynamic collaboration. The audience can expect vivid imagery within every song, unique original music, and an overall engaging show.

From September through April PJPJ Voorschoten organizes monthly jazz concerts in Voorschoten, a town 10 kilometres from The Hague. Students of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague who perform at these concerts arrange their own music, sometimes with their teachers. Every month a different instrument is highlighted. These PJPJ concerts are held once a month on Saturday evenings from 20.00 – 22.30 hrs in the Voorschoten Cultural Centre. The band includes an international lineup of Pablo Cruz (Cuba) on Saxophone, Jan Domenech (Spain) on Piano, Thor Johansen (Denmark) on Bass and Marcello Saracino (Italy) on Drums.
