Emma Hedrick is an award-winning, rising star jazz vocalist, composer, and arranger. The Indianapolis native is currently studying vocal jazz performance on a full tuition scholarship at Frost School of Music, University of Miami.  Emma was named one of the country's top young jazz vocalists by DownBeat Magazine two years in a row. Recently, Emma was a top 5 finalist in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition where she placed 3rd.  In 2018, Emma had the pleasure of performing in the Telluride All-Stars Ensemble at the Telluride Jazz Festival in Colorado.  Not yet 20, Emma has also headlined at various venues including Indy Jazzfest (NextCon) and The Jazz Kitchen. Emma has been performing and arranging as a band leader since she was 14 years old.

NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan is a one-of-a-kind singer and songwriter. She studied with Lennie Tristano and Charles Mingus; called Charlie Parker her “big brother” and teacher; has performed and recorded as a leader as well as with top artists and groups; and then nearly invented a performing setting featuring just voice and acoustic bass.

Frost School of Music - JV1 and Extensions Concert

Enjoy an evening of traditional vocal jazz arrangements from the American Songbook and instrumental jazz literature featuring the improvisational skills of Frost students. They will perform the music of arranging legends Gene Puerling and Phil Mattson along with arrangements by jazz faculty artists, Steve Guerra and Kate Reid.
